Problem :
Many users browse and add items to cart on Jumia but hesitate to complete purchases due to fluctuating prices, limited-time discounts, and uncertain future costs. This creates anxiety around price changes and leads to increased cart abandonment and drop-offs in the purchase funnel.



Solution :
The Price Lock feature allows users to temporarily secure an item’s current price for a specified duration by paying a small deposit. During the lock period, users can return and complete the purchase at the guaranteed price, regardless of market changes or promotional expiry.
The wallet-based flow integrates seamlessly with Jumia’s existing system, allowing flexible reservation terms and automated reminders to drive conversion.






Challenge :
Designing a Price Lock model required balancing user value with business constraints. A key challenge was clearly communicating the rules including lock duration, deposit terms, and cancellation scenarios without overwhelming users.
We also needed to ensure that the feature encouraged conversions rather than delaying purchases, while maintaining transparency around price guarantees and refund policies.
